Save the Saddlers Arms

It is hoped that the Saddler’s Arms in New Yatt – which lies just outside our Branch boundary – may be the latest community pub to open in Oxfordshire.

Where others have succeeded, a group of New Yatt residents seek to follow. They have set up a company, the Saddlers Arms Community Pub Ltd., allowing them to bid as a community group to buy the pub which has been the only pub in the village since the mid-19th Century.

The Natural Environment & Rural Communities (NERC) Act 2006, particularly Section 40 (1) states;

Every public authority (i.e. including Parish Councils) must, in exercising its functions, have regard, so far as is consistent with the proper exercise of those functions, to the purpose of conserving biodiversity*.”

*The diversity of plant and animal life in a particular habitat.

Hare Coursing

Hare Coursing is illegal.

Thames Valley Police have recently issued the following press release:

It is the time of year when hare coursers and poachers are about, so please be aware and report any suspicious activity to police via the 101 number straight away. Suspicious activity could be any of the following:  

  • Groups of vehicles parked up in a rural area, perhaps to a gateway to farmland, bridle paths, farm tracks or grass verges.

  • There will usually be estate cars, 4x4s or vans. They may have evidence of dogs inside like muddy paw prints or dog hairs.
