Fibre broadband comes to North Leigh

on 22 February 2014 - 7:22pm

Lucky residents of North Leigh village will soon be able to order "superfast" broadband from BT. Sharp eyed residents have noticed new roadside cabinets being installed in the village indicating that fibre has been pulled into the village and equipment installed.

Residents of North Leigh parish further afield can only look on enviously at the moment. New Yatt, East End and Wilcote are unlikely to be included in the upgrade. At least for New Yatt the reason has become obvious - the old BT cabinet that serves the entire village is in fact about a mile outside of the village. Too far away to have any chance of superfast broadband even if it was upgraded. There is a (incomplete) map of cabinets here. You can help by identifying your local cabinets and there is a handy web page where you can find out which cabinet your phone is wired in to, here.

Residents in New Yatt are working to bring better broadband to the village and are currently investigating alternative technologies. If you would like to get involved, email gm@northleigh.org
